Second Installation at University of Massachusetts at Amherst
from Angie TennysonThe University of Massachusetts at Amherst has completed the installation of Isokorb® structural thermal breaks in their second project, the Champions Center.
Last year, the University of Massachusetts Life Science Laboratories (LSL) was completed with Isokorb® connections at the canopy.
At 56,500 SF, the Champions Center will house multiple basketball courts for the men’s and women’s programs, as well as a Legacy Hall dedicated to the history of the basketball programs.
The Champions Center will be pursuing LEED Version 3 (2009) New Construction rating of no lower than Silver. The University’s building projects are designed for high energy performance, requiring a solution to thermal bridging.
With a design to harvest natural light, the Champions Center features a glass façade with an extended walkway along the building. Isokorb® thermal breaks are included in the structural steel beams which extend through the façade to the walkway overhang.
Completion is on schedule for March 2015. We will keep you updated on the progress.
